Regular Employee Benefits
RCUH provides a comprehensive benefit package to Regular employees. The following are brief descriptions of the benefit package that is generally offered to Regular RCUH employees. Benefits will vary depending upon the type and status of employment. All benefits below are applicable to Regular 100% FTE status employees providing they have completed required waiting periods. These benefits are subject to change without notice. For more detailed information about the benefit package, please refer to the Policies and Procedures at www.rcuh.com.____________________________________________________________________________________ HEALTH INSURANCE Policy 3.520– RCUH offers several health care options including medical, prescription drug, vision and dental coverage to eligible employees 50-100% FTE. The cost of the monthly premium is shared between the employee and project. The employee’s share of the premiums can be deducted on a pre-tax basis. Plans offered are HMSA’s Preferred Provider Plan, Health Plan Hawaii Plus, Kaiser Health Plan A & B, and Hawaii Dental Service (HDS). Coverage begins within 1-2 months after the hire date.
RETIREMENT PLANS Policy 3.560 – RCUH provides a defined contribution retirement benefit to eligible employees through TIAA-CREF (go to www.tiaa-cref.org for more information on the institution). The project contributes 10% of employee’s base salary to the group retirement annuity (GRA) and all contributions are immediately 100% vested. To qualify for this plan, the employee must be 50-100% FTE, completed one year of service as a Regular employee and 1000 hours of paid work within the service year. An additional voluntary Supplemental Retirement Annuity (SRA) plan is available to employees 50-100% FTE upon hire where the employee may make tax deferred contributions to the plan.
VACATION LEAVE Policy 3.620– RCUH provides 21 days of vacation per year (accumulated at 1.75 days per month) to eligible employees 50-100% FTE. This amounts to 14 hours per month for Full-Time 100% FTE employees. Employees begin accruing vacation hours upon hire and may begin using earned vacation one pay period after completion of the three (3) month benefit probation period. Maximum carryover of unused vacation is 10 days per calendar year.
SICK LEAVE Policy 3.640 – RCUH provides 21 days of sick leave per year (accumulated at 1.75 days per month) to eligible employees 50-100% FTE. Employees begin accruing sick leave hours upon hire and may begin using earned sick leave one pay period after completion of the three (3) month benefit probation period.
HOLIDAYS Policy 3.344 – RCUH provides 13-14 paid holidays each calendar year.
OTHER LEAVE BENEFITS Policies 3.650 – 3.678 – RCUH offers various other types of leaves including Family Leave, Jury Duty, Funeral Leave, Military Leave, Blood Donation Leave, Parent-Teacher Conference, and Leave of Absence Without Pay.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING PLAN Policy 3.530 – RCUH offers eligible employees 50-100% FTE a choice of non-taxable benefits under provisions of the Internal Revenue Code, Section 125, administered through Benefit Services of Hawaii (see www.bshi.net for more information). This includes employee share of monthly health insurance premiums, medical expense reimbursement account, dependant care expense accounts and monthly premiums to voluntary cancer care insurance and voluntary accidental death & dismemberment insurance. Non-taxable benefits can increase employees’ take-home pay by having RCUH deduct the cost of eligible insurance premiums and expense accounts before payroll taxes are calculated. The project pays for 100% of the administration fee.
PRETAX TRANSPORATION BENEFIT Policy 3.530 Addendum - RCUH offers eligible employees 50-100% FTE non-taxable benefits under provisions of the Internal Revenue Code, Section 132 (f). With the Pretax Transportation Benefits Plan (PTBP), employees can set aside a portion of their salary and allocate it towards qualified transportation expenses such as parking, transit (e.g. bus passes) and commercial vanpool.
GROUP TERM LIFE INSURANCE Policy 3.540 – RCUH provides Group Term Life Insurance to eligible employees 75-100% FTE. The amount of coverage is dependent upon the annual salary of the employee. The project pays 100% of the cost of the monthly premium for this benefit. Coverage begins one month following completion of the probation period.LONG TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE Policy 3.570 – RCUH provides Long Term Disability Insurance to eligible employees 75-100% FTE. LTDI benefits are paid after 90-days of disability and it supercedes sick leave benefits. LTDI benefit pays approx. 60% of base salary. The Project pays 100% of the cost of the monthly premium for this benefit. Coverage begins one month following completion of the probation period.LONG TERM CARE INSURANCE Policy 3.545 – RCUH provides Long Term Care Insurance to eligible employees 75-100% FTE. The Project pays 100% of the cost of the monthly premium for this benefit. Coverage begins one month following completion of the probation period.
TUITION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM Policy 3.460 - RCUH encourages further development of employees through education by reimbursing eligible employees for job related courses. Eligible employees must be Full-Time 100% FTE and complete one year of continuous service.
SERVICE AWARDS Policy 3.440 – RCUH recognizes eligible Regular employees for their dedicated years of service.
OUTSTANDING EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR AWARD Policy 3.450 – RCUH has a program that encourages, recognizes, and rewards employees who have made demonstrable, significant and outstanding contributions. All Regular employees are eligible for this award.
Supplemental Long-Term Care Insurance (SLTCI). Employee’s may apply for SLTCI during their new-hire probation period and annually through the Benefit Open Enrollment Period. The monthly premium for the employee’s SLTCI is paid by the employee via convenient payroll deduction on an after-tax basis. Family members may also take advantage of this great low cost benefit. Note: Regular employees with 75-100% FTE are automatically enrolled into Group Long Term Care Insurance (GLTCI) at no cost—this is also referred to as the “base plan”. SLTCI may be purchased by employees to supplement or upgrade their level of Long Term Care Insurance Coverage. See 3.545 RCUH Long Term Care Insurance Policy for information about GLTCI.
Voluntary Cancer Care Insurance, Voluntary Life Insurance and Supplemental Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance. These additional insurance policies may be purchased through USAble Life Insurance Company at group rates. Premiums for these insurance policies are paid by the employee via convenient payroll deduction. The premium for VCCI & SAD&D are deducted from payroll on a tax-deferred basis while premiums for VLI is deducted on an after-tax basis. Employees may apply for these voluntary insurances during the new-hire probation period and annually through Benefit Open Enrollment Period.
