Please note once a deduction has been collected, you may no longer make changes to your health plan until the next annual Open Enrollment period, unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event.
Choosing a medical plan can be complicated. Understanding the difference between an Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan and a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan may help you decide the best plan for you and your family. PPO plans allow you more flexibility in choosing which healthcare provider you see. HMO plans are a network of healthcare providers that coordinate care for you. They generally will not cover out-of-network care, except in some cases of an emergency. Refer to our Benefits Spotlight Series: Healthcare Options and the RCUH Health Insurance Plan Comparison to view the differences. Your medical premiums will vary according to the plan and number of dependents you select.

Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA) has 3 PPO Plan Types (Comprehensive Medical Basic, Comprehensive Medical, and Preferred Provider) and 1 HMO Plan Type.
