RCUH recently completed a review of the RCUH Retiree Health and Life Insurance Program procedures and administration. As a result of this review, RCUH has made the difficult decision to discontinue retiree life insurance coverage ($5,000 benefit) for individuals who are not actively participating in an RCUH retiree medical plan.

The Retiree Health and Life Insurance Program was created to recognize eligible employees for their long and dedicated service by providing access to both retiree medical and life insurance benefits. The life insurance benefit was designed to accompany retiree medical coverage and never intended to serve as a standalone option. Over time, a small number of legacy enrollments resulted in a population of retirees participating in life insurance only.

Effective July 1, 2026, retirees who are not enrolled in an RCUH retiree medical plan will no longer be eligible for retiree life insurance coverage. There will not be an opportunity to transition to an individual plan. This change does not affect retirees who continue to be enrolled in both retiree medical and life insurance plans.

We understand that changes to benefits can be challenging and if you have concerns about this change, please contact Tana Staub, Senior HR Manager at (808) 956-7055 or email: [email protected]
