RCUH firmly believes that addressing mental health concerns or receiving care for mental illness is crucial to increasing our employees’ total well-being. Mental health includes our physical, emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It is more than the absence of a mental illness – it is essential to overall health and quality of life. It affects how we think, act, and feel. Promoting good mental health strengthens individuals, families, and communities.
Below are resources for mental health awareness. If you are struggling with a serious situation, please seek professional help, contact 911, or go to the nearest emergency room.

“There is no health without mental health"
- World Health Organization (WHO)

Everyone should continually monitor their overall stress levels. This can vary for different people and during different times of the year as our workloads ebb and flow. Be able to recognize when it is time to take a break and recharge; burnout does not happen overnight.

MetLife’s EAP is covered under RCUH’s Long-Term Disability. EAP provides employees (and their household members) confidential support for personal issues, planning for life events, or simple managing daily life. Access the TELUS Health web portal for additional toolkits and resources.
FML allows employees to take reasonable unpaid/paid job-protected leave for specified reasons under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and state Hawaii Family Leave Law (HFLL). Contact RCUH Employee Benefits for assistance.
You can use your FSA Healthcare account for out-of-pocket mental health support. The FSA Store has a mental health section.
If enrolled in RCUH’s medical, our providers have mental health support services that you can access in person or via telehealth.
Taking vacation can help increase positive emotions and reduce stress and depression. Employees can request for (unpaid or paid) time off from work. Eligible employees are subject to vacation forfeiture after December 31st, so avoid burnout and take that well deserved time off!
