Upon termination of health benefits, employees and their dependents should receive a Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) Notice/Election form which allows them to continue their health plan(s) on an individual basis for a specified period of time. During the annual Benefit Open Enrollment period, new plan rates will be provided and individuals will have an opportunity to make changes to their enrollment (i.e., change in plan or coverage tier).
If loss of coverage is due to reduced work hours or a leave of absence, re-enrollment of group coverage (in the same plan(s)) upon return to work/eligibility is NOT automatic. Upon return to work/eligibility employees are responsible to submit a new health insurance enrollment form within 30 days to re-enroll in the group plan. RCUH reserves the right to determine effective date of re-enrollment.
RCUH's COBRA Annual Open Enrollment election period typically takes place in May for July 1 start date. Current COBRA enrollees will be notified of the updated rates and may choose to change plans or add qualified dependents to their elections for the new plan year.
Please contact the RCUH Employee Benefits Section ([email protected]) for any questions.
